Donation Time!

I was asked to make a donation to an event called Cash Bonanza for the Day Care Center at Stony Brook, so I made these three little guys!

Spring is Here!

It is so warm out today! Spring is here, no doubt about that. Here is a commission I made of a dragon fly. The body is needle felted, the wings are a sparkle fabric with wire in them, and the eyes and the antenna are beaded on. Adorable little critter, I just had to share!

I also made a three sea turtles recentlly, here are some pictures of one of them.







I love these guys, their shells give so many options for so many different designs!

So on top of making ladybugs for the PECK project I've been making random animals for people around my community. I'm thinking of starting a small business with this, which should also help support future projects like The Lucky Ladybugs Project. Isn't he a cutie? (and yes he was made to look like Boots from Dora the Explorer.)

Things never go as planned....

and that's okay because they can turn out better than expected anyway!

I've been working with the Suffolk County Coalition for about two months now as an intern. Organizations like these are great because they usually offer up lots of intern, and volunteer opportunities for all age groups. Way way highschoolers were helping out a few weeks ago was by typing up submissions for the "Express This!" Contest. That's a contest for children from 4th grade to 12th grade responding to the question "Stand By or Take Action": What would you do if you saw someone being bullied?

They have a great anti-bullying program too, with an great educator and a group of volunteers who go around the community (school, churches, offices, etc.) acting out different scenes of bullying, domestic violence, dating violence, work violence, etc. Really helps to show people what these terms actually mean, and how and where to get help if they are being affected by it or have a friend, relative or just someone they know who is.

There are always great opportunities out there for everyone, just have to keep an eye out for them!

A little bit of help, a lotta hope

Have you ever done something that seems helpful but silly at the same time, and then have other people's reactions just blow you away?

That seriously happened to me this week. I have completed 10 ladybugs now, and from those 10 I've now sold 8. I walked into the day care center where I work and people just LOVED them, it was so cool. Before that I just thought I was doing something silly for a good cause but now I know that people actually care, and that's a great feeling.

When I told people where the money was going (PECK program, Syracuse University) they suddenly started asking questions about how it worked, how I was helping, and were just so generous in helping out. Really I still can not believe the reactions I've been getting from people.

I think people forget how good it feels when other people want to help you make a difference, it just makes it into a whole different experience. That little bit of help, creates a lot of hope for great success. Just goes to show there really are amazing people in this world.
